Tips For Beard Grooming During Covid-19 Lockdown

Tips For Beard Grooming During Covid-19 Lockdown

Don't worry, you don't have to socially-distance yourself from your razor

As social distancing gradually becomes the new normal , it is highly unlikely that grooming services such as hair trimming, hair-cuts and shaves will be accessible anytime soon. In areas where they do remain open, it is perhaps not the best course of action to avail such services given the growing risk of Covid-19.

Though some men would choose to let their beard grow, most might want to do something about it. Till the situation becomes stable. As compiled by The Indian Express, here a few tips to groom your beard during the quarantine.

1. Regular Washes:

According to senior cosmetic surgeon Dr Mohan Thomas, one should go for regular beard washes just like he does for hair. A major reason for this is that overtime, hair anywhere becomes more prone to infections and increasing itchiness. "Using a beard shampoo regularly prevents the deposition of grime and dir along with viruses, thus reducing the chance of a viral, bacterial  or fungal infection," he says.

2. Exfoliation is the Key:

Scrubbing out the skin beneath beard regularly is as vital as the body and the T-zone of your face. This is because the area below the beard gets dry and flaky which leads to irritated skin. Use your usual face-scrub thoroughly by lathering it up with water, creating soft foam and massaging it under your beard to ward off dirt and dead skin cells.

3. Brush Your Beard Regularly:

Brushing the beard on a regular basis also helps in improving blood circulation in the hair roots while also exfoliating flaky dead skin, as per Dr. Thomas. "This also removes all tangles in the hair and gives you a well-groomed look," he said.

4. Shape Your Beard

Trim your beard at least once a week. Comb through and also let your comb act as a guard. men use a pair of small scissors and trim around the perimeter to define your beard's shape.

5. Keep it Moisturised:

Use beard oil or balm on your beard regularly to keep it moisturised. "It is absorbed into the hair without leaving any residue which can attract grime. me active ingredients of the oil act as a sebum and provide natural hydration to the skin at the base of the beard," said Dr. Thomas.
